  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten (divided)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, mix together almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond filling down the center third of the puff pastry and cut diagonal strips on both sides.
  5. Fold the strips over the filling to create a braided effect.
  6. Brush the top with remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
