  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon Dutch process cocoa powder
  • 45 drops black gel food color
  • 45 drops orange gel food color

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually fold into the wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal batches. Color one batch with cocoa powder and black gel food color; color the other batch with orange gel food color.
  5. Chill dough pieces in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. Then form balls by combining one piece of each color dough.
  6. Place on prepared cookie sheets with space in between and bake for 12-15 minutes or until edges are set.
